Emissions from power sector hit 9-year low in Australia during first quarter of carbon tax

Climate Connect News, 11 February 2013, London: Greenhouse gas emissions from the Australian electricity sector have fallen to nine-year low, latest figures released by the government have shown. Between October 2011 and September 2012, the total emissions from the electricity sector were recorded to be 190.7 million tonnes of CO2e, these are the lowest emissions recorded for the same period since 2003. The fall in emissions may be attributed to the fall in demand for electricity and increase in share of electricity generated from renewable energy sources.
